FOREIGN VISITORS JOIN IN CLEANING UP GALLE FORT
The Galle Heritage Foundation has been carrying out regularly shramadana activities with the objective of keeping the World Heritage Galle Fort clean and tidy, under the theme urumayata saviyak (adding strength to heritage).
This programme had to be halted for some time due to the covid-19 situation. However it was revived on the 1st of December 2021, and a special feature of this shramadana was that the participants were a group of foreign youth from several European countries such as the UK, France and Germany. They said that they were doing this voluntary service as part of their educational tour.
This tour was organized by Connected Dreams Travel Agency.
The shramadana lasted for about 4 hours, and plastic, polythene and other litter were collected from the Ramparts and surrounding areas. Facilitation was done by officers of the Galle Heritage Foundation who also joined in the shramadana.
