Stage VIII of the program to exchange knowledge amongst Forts towns was held from 05.10.2019 to 08.10.2019 centering Jaffna District. Representing Galle- Jaffna , 25 children and 05 teachers from 5 schools in Galle district and 25 children and 5 teachers from Jaffna District participated at this stage.
The program was successfully performed through the residential facilities made available at the Retreat House Residencies , Pandatharpu, Jaffna with the active participation of Mr. J.K.Rajapakhsa, director, National Bureau for Peace & Harmony and former deputy director (Administration)- Department of education Southern Province department of education , Ms. D.K.S.Jayalakshmi, Director- Galle Heritage Foundation, Mr. Manoj Padmalal- Assistant director of education Southern Province department of education ,Mr. Udayakumar-director of education Northern Province, Mr. S .Sandararaja – zonal director of education Jaffna, Ms. Darmika- Assistant zonal director of education Jaffna, Ms. J. Balasingham – director, Jaffna Association, Mr. F.X.Anton- zonal director of education Nellore, staff of Galle Heritage Foundation and resource personnel from National Bureau for Peace & Harmony.
Places of historical importance such as Dambakolapatuna, Jaffna Fort, Nagadeepa Temple, Jaffna Library, and places of archeological importance such as Kandurugoda/ Kantharodaya archeological area, Nellore Kandasamy Kovil were visited and historical information concerning those places were also explained in detail during this program.
Visit to Jaffna Municipal Council and cordial reception by the Mayor Mr. Emmanuel Arnold, visit to Jaffna Police Headquarters and cordial reception by the Headquarters Inspector Mr. Emmanuel Arnold, participation in a Highway Code Adherence Program organized by Governor’s Office, Jaffna and cordial reception by the Governor Jaffna Hon Mr. Suren Raghawan were memorable highlights of this program.
All students also took part in physical exercise sessions every day in the morning during the program. In the course of the program, various activities for enhancement of harmony and promote brotherhood between North and South embodied in the program were performed.
In the event of send off celebration held on the last day, a Cultural Show was staged, Certificates were issued to all students and teachers and presents were also awarded to schools.
