The project for the conservation of the old Police Residences building on Church Street, Fort, Galle, undertaken by the Galle Heritage Foundation, is progressing according to schedule.
This single-story building possesses architectural features belonging to the Portuguese, Dutch, British and post-colonial periods. The raw materials which had been used also bear evidence to this fact. The building is being conserved using techniques which would preserve as much as possible these historical features, while adapting it for suitable commercial use.
The conservation which began in April this year is due to be completed before the end of the year. The estimated cost is approximately Rs. 33 million.
