The Ambassador for the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Sri Lanka Her Excellency Ms. Tanja Gonggrijp paid a courtesy call on the Chairman of the Galle Heritage Foundation Mr. Parakrama Dahanayake on Wedensday, 23rd September. She was accompanied by Mr. Mahendra Ratnaweera, Advisor (Political and Cultural Affairs) of the Dutch Embassy.
They discussed matters concerning the conservation of the Galle Fort and the programmes which were being conducted by the GHF. The Ambassador showed a special interest in the GHF programmes connected with the community. The Chairman apprised her of the ongoing programme conducted by the GHF linking the Fort City of Galle with the Fort Cities of the North and East, namely, Jaffna, Mannar, Trincomalee and Batticaloa, with exchange of visits of school children.
She also evinced an interest on the proposed exhibitions which the GHF has planned, depicting the streets in Galle Fort, the buildings of historical value on these streets and the people occupying these buildings.
The Ambassador also participated in a field tour of Galle Fort along with the Chairman and Mr. Tharanga Liyanarachchi, Project Officer of the GHF. During this tour, she also dropped in at the Dutch Reformed Church and the Galle Library.
