On a concept of the Honourable Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Mr. Vidura Wickramanayaka, the programme of creating a noble society through good agricultural practices has been launched island-wide with the participation of all institutions functioning under the Ministry.
The programme was started in Galle Fort by the Galle Heritage Foundation with the participation of the staff members of the GHF and residents and institutions in Galle Fort.
An awareness-raising programme was held at the premises of the Galle Heritage Foundation on 12th July 2022, with Mr. Dinesh Senadhiratna and Ms. Nayanathara of the Provincial Agricultural Department as resource persons. The focus was on organic agricultural practices and the special methods needed to be followed in seaside urban areas.
Home gardens are being developed in the garden of the GHF Information centre, homes of staff members and residents of Galle Fort and hotels and guest houses within Galle Fort.
Vegetable seeds have been distributed by the GHF free of charge while organic fertilizer is being issued at concessionary prices.
